The TERROR BY NIGHT SERMON STARTER PSALM 91:1-12 - Isaiah 43:1-7
Terror strikes in our homeland almost every weekend since we pulled our troops out of Iraq, someone is shot or murdered. There is rampant looting in the inner cities. Persuasive reasons to fear fill our headlines and television news casts. Here's this week's total. . . On September 17th pressure cooker bombs were found in New York and New Jersey. One exploded in New Jersey on the Jersey shore injuring 27 people just before a race, another went off in New York. All in all officials found eleven pressure cooker bombs in all. Fortunately, only two actually exploded. September 23rd, North of Seattle, Washington, a gunman shot and killed 5, wounded one and disappeared. September 21st, Police shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott after he allegedly refused to drop a hand gun. Lamont has been described as a brain injured, disabled black man. What has followed is three nights of rioting and looting. There are two roles that immature two-dimensional thinking people are quick to assume and label: Victim and Perpetrator. So-called eye-witnesses identify with the victim and the "other guy" is always the perpetrator. Everyone wants to be the judge, but without the training, black robe and gavel. We have not educated our young people about basic civic lessons on how the legal system works and how the political system works. As a result U.S. citizens are easier and easier to manipulate and control by politicians. Too many U.S. citizens do not believe in the legal system and decide to become Judge, Jury and Executioner. Our culture is extremely lawless and getting more so. It is difficult to sleep peacefully in your own bed knowing that those who wish to induce terror are lurking about the countryside. My sermon this morning is aimed at speaking God's word of peace into our circumstances. Jesus put it this way: John 14:27 (NKJV) Jesus peace isn't like Islamic pseudo peace. Real peace happens when the troubled heart turns to Jesus and finds rest. There is no more over-reacting to the outrageous attacks of the terrorist. Pastor Phil <><<

Reasons we are protected from The Terror by Night: I. WE DWELL WITH THE MOST HIGH GOD - Verse 1 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. A. Each believer must find their own secret place of God's Presence 1. It might be in a kitchen preparing meals 2. It might be in a car, speeding along the roadway B. The Secret place is where God and man meet 1. Religious symbols may or may not help 2. Religious environments may or may not help C. Each of us must work out our own salvation w/fear and trembling 12b . . . .work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; Phil. 2:12b
Reasons we are protected from The Terror by Night: II. WE PLACE OUR WHOLE TRUST IN GOD - Verse 2 Blondin was a 19th century acrobat, famous for his tightrope act 160 feet above Niagra Falls on a rope which was over a thousand feet long. In 1860 a Royal party from Britain saw Blondin cross the tightrope on stilts, and again blindfolded. After that he stopped halfway and cooked and ate an omelette. Next he wheeled a wheelbarrow from one side to the other, and returned with a sack of potatoes in it. Then Blondin approached the Royal party. He asked the Duke of Newcastle, "do you believe I could take a man across the tightrope in this wheelbarrow?" "Yes, I do" , said the Duke. "Hop in, then" , replied Blondin.

What are the Causes of your Anxieties? 1. Death. . .Suffering. . .Lack. . .Failure. . .Rejection. . .Criticism 2. Loss of income / job / eviction. . . C. If God says it He will do it. . .His Promises are not like Politicians' 20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 1. You Are God's Property – v. Isaiah 43:1b "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.” a. You have His DNA b. His Son is both With You and In You
2. You Are Preserved By God – Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
3. You Are Protected By God Himself – Isaiah 43:3a For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;”
4. You Are God's Passion – Isaiah 43:4 (The Apple of His Eye) “Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life.”
5. You Are Surrounded By The Presence of God – Isa 43: 5a “Fear not, for I am with you;”
6. You Have His Promise Of Spiritual Sons and Daughters Isaiah 43:6 “I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' And to the south, 'Do not keep them back!' Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth;”
7. You Have The Purpose Of God – Isa 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My Glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him." The Terror by Night, cont., p.3
Reasons we are protected from The Terror by Night: IV. WE ARE PROTECTED BY GOD'S ANGELIC POWER - Verse 2 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. A. Angels are God's Secret Service - 1. Trump Meeting - Security was EVERYWHERE 2. Don Silber Angel Story A friend rolled his pickup in an accident. Rescuers were frantic while Don's friend was unscathed. They were searching for the OTHER person in the pickup. Three eyewitnesses saw ANOTHER person in the pickup throw themselves over the driver. They could find NO ONE! B. Angels can protect us from harm can sustain us through it Luke 22:43 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 1. Jesus was strengthened by an Angel before the Cross 2. We are protected in our Dark Night of the Soul 3. We do not weep alone: He knows our pain and distress

In 1967, Joni Eareckson, then 17 years old, dived into Chesapeake Bay. She had misjudged, however, the water’s depth and ended up breaking her neck becoming a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the shoulders down, for the rest of her life.
